Easy Shakshuka

Ingredients:

  • 1 Jar of a flavorful tomato/pasta sauce of choice

  • Eggs - any number you choose (between 3-5 eggs)

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper (optional)

  • Pita Bread (optional).

Equipment:

  • Sautee pan with lid

  • Heat resistant spoon

  • Small bowls or cups

Instructions:

  • Empty the contents of the jarred sauce into the saute pan and place on the stove under medium heat

  • While the sauce is heating, stir it occasionally, and crack each egg separately into its own small bowl or cup (this helps to ensure no shells finds its way into the dish) and set aside

  • Once sauce is heated through and it will be begins to bubble, turn down the heat to low-medium

  • Using a spoon move the sauce in the pan to create small spaces or divots for each egg to sit in

  • Carefully and slowly pour each egg into the small divots into the sauce, season each egg with a generous pinch of salt and black pepper (optional), and cover the pan with the lid

  • These do not take long to cook - you can cook them to whatever consistency you prefer (and don’t forget they will continue to cook in the hot tomato sauce even after taking the pan off the stove) - this should take between 5 - 8 minutes depending on your preferred consistency

  • Shake the pan gently to evaluate the yolk consistency - once desired consistency is reached - remove from heat, plate, and enjoy!

  • Serve with pita bread if you desire!
