Ice Cream Three Ways!!

See Video Here!

It’s getting warmer out, so let’s make some ice cream! Here are three different methods you can use to make your own ice cream. The three ways include the churn method using an ice cream machine, the mason jar method, and the ziploc bag method. All three ways will result in some delicious ice cream, so see which way works best for you!

The Churn Method:

  • Separate 6 egg yolks into a bowl and mix

  • In a separate saucepan, add:

    • ⅔ cups sugar

    • ⅛ teaspoon salt

    • 1 cup of milk

  • Heat the milk mix in the pan until sugar and salt dissolve

  • Add flavoring of choice to the pan (we used vanilla)

  • Slowly incorporate the milk into the eggs and constantly stir

  • Add the combined egg/milk mixture back into the saucepan

  • Cook until thick enough to coat the back of a spoon

  • Strain the mixture through a fine mesh into another bowl

  • Cover and freeze for 2 hours

  • Put it in the ice cream machine and let it run until you get a consistency you like

The Mason Jar Method:

  • Measure out 1 cup of heavy cream into a liquid measuring cup

  • Add to the measuring cup:

    • 1.5 cups of sugar

    • Dash of salt

  • Whisk until sugar and salt fully blend, then add the mixture to a mason jar

  • Add preferred flavoring (we used vanilla again)

  • Cover the lid and then shake the mixture for about 5-10 minutes, until you feel it start to thicken up.

  • Once thickened, put it in the freezer for about 2 hours and it’s ready to serve.

The Ziploc Bag Method:

  • Measure out 1 cup of half and half to a liquid measuring cup

  • Add to the measuring cup:

    • 2 tablespoons of sugar

    • Add flavoring to the cup as well

  • Whisk until sugar and flavoring fully blend

  • Prepare a ziploc bag filled with ice

  • Add ¼ cup of kosher salt to the ice bag

  • Pour the milk mixture into a smaller bag (close the bag)

  • Add the smaller bag to the larger ice bag, and shake for about 5-10 minutes and it’s ready to serve.
